I am directed by the Governor to forward, for your information and that of the Officers of your Department, a copy of Regulations that have been prepared by a Committee respecting the occupancy of the Civil Service Bungalows, which have received lis Excellency's approval.

The applications may be sent in, on the present occasion, up to the end of this month,

CIVIL SERVICE BUNGALOWS.

PROPOSED REGULATIONS FOR OCCUPANCY.

1. Officers desirous to avail themselves of the Government Bungalows during the Summer season are to send in applications for quarters to the Colonial Secretary before the 25th May.

2. The summer season is taken as beginning on the 1st of June and ending on the 18th of October, and the period comprised between these dates shall be equally apportioned between all applicants.

3. The order of succession in which Officers shall follow each other will be deter- mined by drawing lots, but exchanges or any other arrangements may be made for their mutual convenience between the allottees, always provided such arrangements are not counter to these Regulations.

4. Should any allottee not avail himself of his turn, and the quarters be thus leit vacant, the other allottees shall be notified by circular and be given the opportunity of exchanging their own period for the vacant one, the exchange being effected, us in the first instance, by lot.

5. Applications sent in after the 25th of May can only be entertained in the event of any of the original allottees not availing themselves of their turn, in which case, subject to the preference specified in preceding Regulation, the vacant quarters may be assigned to a late applicant.

6. The privilege of occupying a Government bungalow is not transferable either to brother-officers or private friends.

7. In order to extend the benefit of the Government Bungalows to the numerous class of subordinate officials who have never hitherto had an opportunity of a change at the Peak, officers already possessing houses or part ownership of houses at the Peak are invited to abstain from applying for quarters at the Governinent Bungalows.

8. Heads and Assistant Heads of Departments will be accommodated at the Upper Bungalows, as far as conveniently possible, but these will be open to subordinate officials when the lower Bungalows are not available.
